Creations of the troupe

The band throughout their entire career has brought some of the best albums in the rock and pop music history. Their first album Parachutes, soon after the release topped the UK Albums Chart. They then came with the next album A Rush of the Blood to the Head for which they wrote 20 songs which were poles apart from Parachutes. The other famous albums of Coldplay include X & Y, Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends, Mylo Xyloto and Atlas.

Genre and Style

The band happens to be “limestone rock” instead of hard rock. Martin has a feminist touch in his style and the lyrics always have some hidden deep emotions of love. The meditative style has helped to make them more popular world-wide. The troupe later switched to the dream pop style. They have a heavy resemblance to the groups like U2, Travis, Oasis and Radiohead. Each new song of Coldplay has a new emotion reviving the feelings of people listing to the track. They then moved to art rock with their song Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends.  The band is also not limited to the conventional drums and guitars, it always bring something new each time, trying new instruments (orchestras, honky-tonk pianos). They also brought in the acoustic style of music with their various genres. One important factor of their world-wide popularity is that they do not adhere to just the “British” style of music. Instead, they are the Global Artists.

Endorsements

Coldplay has many multi-dollar endorsement deals with the top brands like GAP, Diet Coke and Gatorade. They then used their songs (Yellow, Don’t Panic and Trouble) for their brands promotion. Even the iconic Apple Inc. has used the Viva la Vida song for the iTunes Store. The group is indebted to Apple Inc. and has performed several times for them.

Philanthropic Activities

The group leader Chris Martin has a big heart and has performed at various Fundraisers. The group also donates 10% of their earning to charity. They also supported the idea of Meat Free Mondays by Paul McCartney. They also helped in the earthquake relief plan by auctioning the band instruments and donated the sum so collected. They donated £610,000 to the Kids Company for helping the poor and destitute children.

What do the fans say?

  • I’ve never been asked to do collaboration. I guess I just don’t give off that come-and-get-me vibe. I wouldn’t be averse to doing one with Coldplay or U2 – anyone who sells 50 million albums.
  • I love Coldplay. The lights and the sound quality, they really play their instruments. Sometimes, during the show, they’ll make a mistake and stop. I think they do it intentionally just to show you they’re really playing it live.
  • The word we have in Korea for K-Pop is ‘Gaio.’ And I guess it’s a huge umbrella term. Basically it’s like saying Coldplay and Kanye West, or Eminem and Celine Dion, are the same genre.
